In the early years of the school the Brass Band was under the direction of Mr Tom Mitchell and featured large in school life.
The choir, too, was very active and participated in local and regional events: supporting at the Charter Theatre; and appearing in TV productions of "Our Favourite Hymns", for example.
Exposure to the Arts in general was an important focus of the school and extra curricular productions added a different dimension to pupils' education.
